Winter WOB Tour: Days 7-9
Monday Jan. 11-Wednesday Jan. 13 Days
After a nice run that morning on the surrounding trails, we packed up and headed to an old saw mill on the park property with plans to film another music video! Check it out:
We had a short drive to Black Mountain, NC, just outside of Asheville, which is where we’d call home for the next 3 days.
The first two nights, “home” was a KOA just down the road from where Curtiss played a show Monday night at The Town Pump Tavern. Their Facebook tag line is “dive bar,” which perfectly describes it’s dim lighting and hometown bar feel. When Curtiss was loading his equipment in around 5pm he walked in to none other than Artimus Pyle, lead drummer from Lynard Skynard. Little did we know, his hometown is Black Mountain, NC.
Unfortunately he wasn’t there for the show that night. It was an intimate crowd, but an attentive one who loved Curtiss’s music.
We met a couple who own the Blue Ridge Biscuit Co. and they offered to feed us the mornings we were in town AND they even offered to let us stay with them.
Check out this biscuit! They really do make some awesome breakfasts:
We don't usually post food pictures, but had to share this one since it comes with a great story! Monday night Curtiss played a show in Black Mountain, NC where we met a couple who slipped us a napkin that said "good for 2 free breakfasts at Blue Ridge Biscuit Co." From there we got to talking and they invited us to stay with them. Our 2 day stay in Black Mountain turned into a 3 day stay, with 3 mornings of delicious breakfast and we left having gained several new friends! Last night we had a blast sharing dinner, drinks and many laughs together. Two strangers, who quickly became friends, opened their house and welcomed us with open arms. The best aspect of traveling is getting to meet so many incredible people along the way. Next time you find yourself near Black Mountain, NC stop in to @blue_ridge_biscuit! You will be welcomed by kind, open-hearted staff and will fill up on a delicious food and some of the best coffee we've had yet! #paygasnotrent #pgnr #thefriendswemeetalongtheway #thefriendswekeep #southernbiscuits #friedchicken #homemade #northcarolina #blackmountain
We had already paid for the first two nights at the KOA, but didn’t want to pay a third night as it gets pricey, so we were thrilled at the opportunity to stay in Black Mountain a third night.
We offered to cook them dinner in an exchange for the free breakfast and place to stay. Prior to walking in their house we had only talked for a total of 5 minutes, shook hands and exchanged numbers. Within minutes of being in their house, it felt like we had been friends for years. Jen & EC both have that “thing” about them where you instantly feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed.
Together we feasted, Curtiss played some music, we laughed A TON, drank more PBR than we probably should have, and enjoyed basking in this newly formed friendship.
Time and time again we meet the coolest people while we are traveling, and most are more than willing to lend a hand. I couldn’t say it better myself:
