Winter WOB Tour (days 49-53)
Monday Feb. 22-Friday Friday Feb 26
Monday morning we headed to Ft. Myers Beach, where coincidentally Curtiss’s parents were visiting! It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly that they scheduled a vacation the same week we had a show in Ft. Myers.
The first few days we stayed at a campground about 6 miles from his parents rental. We thought this would work out well, but turned out to be a bit frustrating because traffic was HORRIBLE. There was only one lane on and off the island and there was a ton of construction. It could take up to 30 minutes to go 1 mile.
Our last two days we were at a campground a stones throw away from their rental. Had we known traffic was so bad we would have paid the extra to stay there, versus thinking we’d save money by staying somewhere outside of town that was a bit cheaper.
We ended up spending very little time at either one of our campgrounds and most of our time at his parents rental. They were right on the beach, and the dogs were allowed. They of course had all of the cooking amenities a house has AND they had internet. It was great!
We had an awesome week of sharing meals together and hanging out on the beach.
There was only one day of bad weather, and it was right in the middle of the week, which was a perfect break from the sun. We took advantage of the day and went shopping in town!
Wednesday night Curtiss did his FIRST EVER house concert through the organization he was accepted in to called “Concerts In Your Home.” He nailed it!!! It was a crowd of veteran house concert attendees and they were amazed at his talent. Here is the song he opened with:
Our last night on the island his parents treated us to dinner at Doc Ford’s, which has delicious drinks and food. Every restaurant and bar in Ft. Myers Beach has variations of mojitos, among many other island drinks—but the mojitos are my favorite! I had fun trying all the different flavors throughout the week.
The show Friday night was in Ft. Myers proper, which is about 30 minutes from Ft. Myers Beach. It was a usual crowd, where only a few were attentive. The acoustics were not good, so unless you were sitting up close, it was hard to tell there was live music.
Overall…we couldn’t have asked for a better week! 🙂
