Winter WOB Tour (days 71-76)
Sunday March 13-Friday March 18
Sunday started our trek out of Florida, toward Louisiana, where Curtiss would play his LAST World of Beer show. We stayed Sunday night in Homosassa Springs, with our friend Shelby and her adorable puppy, Mijo.
Monday we drove to the Fort Walton Beach area where we planned to camp for two nights and meet up with our friends who live there. We stayed at Rocky Bayou State Park and were camped directly across from two trails. It was great to get to walk and enjoy the warm Florida weather for our last few days.
Wednesday we headed to Mobile, AL where friends of ours from Juneau now live. We parked in their driveway, cooked them dinner and got to meet their new baby! As always, catching up with friends is one of our favorite parts of traveling!
Thursday we headed to New Orleans. We were so excited as neither of us had been there before. We camped not too far from the city, in Bayou Segnette State Park. We didn’t spend much time in the park since we were adamant to experience all that New Orleans had to offer!
Thursday was St. Patrick’s Day. We started the day off at an Irish Pub…which had over priced food and no drink specials, so that was a bummer! We were in “The Garden District”, which was beautiful!
We also had a blast exploring “The French Quarters,”
and “Bourbon Street.” This picture sums up the characters on Bourbon Street…
That night we grabbed dinner at a spot right along where the St. Patricks Day Parade would pass through. We tried fried alligator, catfish, and gumbo. All jokes aside, the alligator tasted like fried chicken! hahaha!
We happened to be in Hollywood for the 84th Annual Christmas Parade back in December, and now we just happened to be in New Orleans for their St Patrick's Day Parade! We were pretty excited, but didn't get to see much of the St Patty's day one…Doug started freaking out and doing circles and snapping at us, which is how he "talks" to us, so we left, and within 10 minutes it started thundering, lightening and down pouring. We think Doug felt the storm…or maybe just doesn't like the color green. Regardless, it was a fun day! #stpatricksday #neworleans #latergram #parade #soloud #beforethestorm #nola #neworleans #paygasnotrent
Friday we checked out The Market.
I tried crepes for the first time! It rained that afternoon so we took advantage of the poor weather and went to the state museum. They had an awesome display of Hurricane Katrina. Both Curtiss and I were young enough to not remember the details of it, so learning about it in the museum was fascinating—and disturbing and heartbreaking.
Our favorite aspects of walking around New Orleans was people watching, looking at the art, and checking out the unique buildings:
That night Curtiss played HIS LAST World of Beer show!!! Although it was a fun experience, we were both happy that it was over! It was a LONG winter, and unfortunately only a few of the venues were worth going back to—however we met an incredible amount of people an saw some amazing places!!!
The boys seemed to enjoy NOLA too…
