“Fall Down & Around Tour” Days 1 & 2 (of 104)
September 2nd & 3rd
After saying our farewells to our parents, we left Wednesday morning and headed toward Columbus, OH. We arrived just in the knick of time for Curtiss’s impromptu show at The Beechridge Lounge in Buckeye Lake. On Google Maps it told us the drive was around 6 1/2 hours…however we’ve now learned that we need to add approximately 3 hours on to whatever Google Maps tells us. Between the dogs, my small bladder, and trying to get the most optimal gas mileage so we can keep our 11.1mpg average, we are slow. We stayed with some of Curtiss’s college friends Wednesday night, cooked a delicious breakfast at their house the next morning and then hit the road by noon, headed for Sevierville, TN. (Thanks Chris & Rachel!)
Again, Google Maps told us this drive was just over 6 hours. We did it in 11 hours I think? Part of our slow pace however was because we prioritized stopping at “Big Bone Lick State Park”. With a name like, “Big Bone Lick,” it was bound to be interesting.
We saw some fenced in Buffalo, walked in 91 degree temps, and found a swampy inland lake for the dogs to get a little smelly in.
The best part of Big Bone Lick was the drive to get to it. We drove through some narrow country roads, past an incredible amount of horse fences…oddly enough though, with very few with horses in them. The houses were all made of brick and most had prominent white pillars on the front porch. We pondered the significance of the brick houses— was it practicality, historical or was it a building style code for the area?
On the drive from Big Bone Lick to Sevierville we drove through vibrant green rolling hills, and steep rock faces that lined the road. It was beautiful.
We arrived to Sevierville late- around 11pm. We parked in the parking lot of Curtiss’s childhood friend’s apartment. This would be “home” for the next two days. (Thanks Chad!)
